This report was commissioned by Teignbridge District Council, on behalf of the South-west Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme. Through conducting a range of surveys including aerial, bathymetric, wave and tidal surveys, and ecological mapping, the programme aims to promote and implement a repeatable, standard, and cost-effective method of monitoring the coastal environment. The overall objectives of the programme are to provide data that meet the operational monitoring requirements of shoreline management plans, coastal strategies and individual schemes, between the limits of the Portland Bill, Dorset to Avonmouth, Bristol. This report focusses on the ecological mapping component of the programme. It is intended that this in turn will inform action plans and strategies for coastal management in the future.

This map was produced using data from the South-west Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme, commissioned by Teignbridge District Council, in this case covering the coastline between Lands End to Hartland Point. Through conducting a range of surveys including aerial, bathymetric, wave and tidal surveys, and ecological mapping, the programme aims to promote and implement a repeatable, standard, and cost-effective method of monitoring the coastal environment. This map is the result of the ecological mapping component of the programme, and the habitat data is presented as vector polygons using the EUNIS 2007-11 habitat classification scheme. The mapping project aimed to map the extent of all coastal and terrestrial Priority Habitats within the EMSW03 work package area, covering 6,644 hectares from Lands End, Cornwall to Hartland Point, Devon.

This report was commissioned by the Channel Coastal Observatory as part of the National Network of Regional Coastal Monitoring Programmes of England. The programme is responsible for overseeing regular terrestrial ecological mapping of coastal areas in England, in order to provide up-to-date data for use by Local Authorities, the Environment Agency and Natural England to contribute to their reporting and monitoring requirements; this includes quantification of coastal change, assessing losses and gains for the Environment Agency's Regional Habitat Creation Programme, and supporting wider environmental and biodiversity monitoring requirements. The principal objective of this work is to provide priority habitat and selected supporting habitat extent data for the south east England region, ESE01; a coastal region extending from the Isle of Grain, Kent to Portland Bill, Dorset, including the Isle of Wight. This area incorporates approximately 1000 miles of coastline, with an area totalling 89913.2 hectares, and was previously mapped for the Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme in 2013. Following completion of the mapping, an accuracy assessment was undertaken and an analysis of habitat change by comparison with the 2013 habitat data.

North West Regional Monitoring Programme, funded by the Environment Agency (EA), was set up in 2008 to provide a coordinated, risk based, monitoring system for the collection and analysis of coastal data to inform sustainable coastal defence management. This project was commissioned to map priority Biodiversity Action Plan habitat extents for the North West Region to inform the program and statutory bodies of coastal habitat change. It is intended that this in turn will inform action plans and strategies for coastal management. This project was commissioned to map the extent of all coastal and terrestrial Priority and supporting habitats within the north west coastal region by analysis of aerial imagery. The principal objectives of the mapping project are to provide Priority BAP extent data for: - Establishing baseline datasets for the North West where they are missing or inadequate - Identification and quantification of regional coastal change - Assessing losses and gains for the Regional Habitat Creation Programme - Identification and strategic consideration of coastal flood and erosion risks - Assisting development of BAPs - Providing contextual information to support AAs for SMPs, Flood and Coastal Defence Strategies and Flood and Coastal Defence schemes
